Pampers nappies

As a parent, we know how important it is to be sure that your baby’s nappies offer the best comfort, dryness and protection at all times. That’s why Pampers offers different nappies to cover all situations and stages of your baby’s development.

If you’re wondering how features like the wetness indicator work, or just having a hard time choosing between New Baby or Harmonie, Baby Dry or Active Fit, nappies or nappy pants, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered! With this guide, choosing the right nappy doesn’t have to be confusing.

How Are Pampers Nappies Made?

To understand the features of our nappies and the differences between them, it helps to know a little about how they’re made. Each part of a nappy has its own special role in keeping your baby safe, comfortable and dry. The main parts of Pampers nappies are:

  • Topsheet. The topsheet draws wetness to the inside of the nappy, keeping your baby’s skin dry and comfy. This is the part of the nappy that’s in contact with your baby’s skin, so it’s made of super-soft fibres.

  • Absorbent core. The core is made up of special materials that absorb and lock away wetness, keeping them away from your baby’s skin.

  • Backsheet. The outer covering of the nappy. Its job is to prevent any wetness being transferred to your baby’s clothes or bedding.

  • Stretch fastenings. Used on traditional-style nappies (not nappy pants), these soft and flexible, repositionable strips help you get a perfect fit every time.

  • Flexible elastics. The elastics in our nappies help them to gently fit to your baby’s body shape. Pampers uses non-allergenic materials in our nappy elastics.

Which Nappy Is Best for Your Baby?

Pampers nappies offer great protection and comfort, and each has a different feature to suit your baby or toddler’s age and character, as well as the situation you’ll be using them in.

For example, a navel-friendly shape and soft, breathable topsheet are must-have features for a newborn baby. On the other hand, the easy-on-and-off convenience and leak protection of nappy pants could be just what your active toddler needs to stay dry in the playground.

Quick Guide to Pampers Nappy Features

A good nappy locks in wetness to keep it away from your baby’s skin. This is important to protect against irritation, nappy rash and chafing.

Pampers nappies with a super-absorbent core quickly pull wetness away from your baby’s skin and lock it away for up to 12 hours of leak-free comfort and dryness.

Today’s nappies are so good at locking in wetness, it’s not always obvious how full they are from their outward appearance—but our wetness indicator makes it easy to tell: A line on the nappy turns from yellow to blue, letting you know at a glance that it might be time for a change.

To make taking care of your baby’s umbilical cord stump easier in the first few weeks, Pampers New Baby nappies have a navel-friendly shape – a cut-out on the front that goes around the umbilical stump. This helps the stump to heal by keeping it dry and exposed to air.

The all-round waistband of Nappy Pants and Splashers is made of super soft, stretchy materials that flex to your baby’s shape, helping to prevent gaps and leaks.

To ensure a comfortable fit and reliable protection for even the most active toddler, the 3-Way Perfect Fit System consists of

  • Large and soft waist wings that stretch for ultimate comfort no matter how much your baby moves
  • Strong holding tapes that grip securely for a long-lasting fit
  • Wide tapes that hold the nappy for a secure fit.

Double leg cuffs gently wrap around your baby’s leg to help prevent leaks comfortably, without chafing or restricting your little one’s movement.

Stop & Protect pocket helps prevent leaks at the back.

The all-around stretchy waistband makes it easy to put our nappy pants on with just one pull, no matter how wriggly your baby. Taking them off is even simpler –just tear the sides and remove.

The cute designs on our nappies are eye-catching and fun for your baby, and they’ll bring a smile to your face too. Some of our designs are matched to the type of nappy – for example, Baby Dry Night Pants have a night-time theme while Splashers – our baby swimming nappy – is decorated with aquatic and seaside motifs to look like real swimwear.

The drawings on Pampers nappies contain non-sensitising pigments that are non-soluble in water, so they can’t penetrate your baby’s skin.

Pampers Nappy Pants feature an easy disposal system: just roll up the nappy (with the mess still inside) and secure it with the pre-attached tape.

Used in Splashers – a nappy specially designed for splashing about in water – the no swell core prevents the material inside the nappy from becoming swollen and heavy with water when you use it in a swimming or paddling pool.

The premium cotton, soft plant-based fibres and other thoughtfully selected materials help ensure that Pampers Harmonie nappies are hypoallergenic and gentle on your baby’s skin.

Choosing the Right Size of Nappy

Choosing the right size of nappy is important to keep your baby as dry and comfy as possible and for preventing leaks and blowouts.

You won’t know in advance what size nappy your newborn baby will need until after he or she is born, so it’s a good idea to take a small selection of newborn sizes to the hospital to try.

When deciding how many nappies to pack in your hospital bag, keep in mind that a newborn baby can get through as many as 10 or 12 nappies a day, dropping to around 6 to 8 a day after a few weeks.

Newborn babies tend to grow quickly, so you may only need enough of the smallest size to last a few weeks.

If you’re unsure what size is the best fit for your baby, or whether it’s time to move up a size, use our nappy size and type guide.

The best nappy changes as your child develops. Here are some tips for choosing between the different types:

  • Newborn babies need a super-soft topsheet and navel-friendly shape, like Pampers New Baby
  • For an active toddler, you might prefer the versatile convenience of Nappy Pants
  • Nappies like Pampers Baby Dry offer up to 12 hours of dryness to ensure all-night comfort.

There’s no way of knowing your newborn’s nappy size until he or she is born, so it’s a good idea to take a small selection of newborn sizes to try. Any that are too big won’t be wasted anyway – your baby will soon grow into them!

Newborn babies grow fast in the first weeks and months, so it’s a good idea to buy smaller quantities more frequently at first, so you won’t be left with unused nappies when it’s time to move up a size.

Here are some signs your baby might need to change up a nappy size:

  • The fastening tapes don’t reach the centre of the waistband
  • You can’t easily slide two fingers under the waistband of the fastened nappy
  • You see red marks on your baby’s tummy or thighs after removing the nappy
  • The nappy isn’t fully covering your baby’s bottom
  • Your baby shows signs of discomfort, like pulling at the nappy.

The Bottom Line

Choosing the best nappy for your little one might seem a little daunting at first, so we hope this guide has made it easier to navigate the differences between the various Pampers nappies and their features.

Using the right nappy at each stage of development will help keep your baby smiling with dry, comfortable and healthy skin.
