Take your child into a garden and talk to them about what they see. Let them smell herbs and flowers and compare leaf shapes, sizes, textures, colours and patterns.
Ask open-ended questions to get your child to think about what they¿re experiencing - using all their senses.
If you're in your own garden, turn the hose to a trickle and ask your child to water the plants. Or give them their own small watering can.
Buy some seeds and give your child a flowerpot so they can plant them and, over time, see how they grow.
Interacting with the natural world enhances your child's sensitivity to plants and animals and helps them understand the relationships and connections between all living things.
